COURTS IN ABIA REOPEN AS JUSUN SUSPENDS INDUSTRIAL ACTION
Courts across Abia State are set to reopen following the suspension of the industrial action embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Abia State Branch.
The union announced the suspension of the strike in a press release issued on Thursday, May 14, 2026, after reaching an agreement with the Abia State Government through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
According to the statement signed by the State Chairman of JUSUN, Comrade Prince Chinedu Ezeh, and the State Secretary, Comrade Pastor Chibueze Nwachukwu, the agreement was subsequently ratified by the Congress of the Union, leading to the immediate suspension of the strike.
The union stated that the MOU substantially addressed the demands of judiciary workers in the state.
With the development, judicial activities are expected to resume fully across courts in Abia State after weeks of inactivity occasioned by the industrial action.
JUSUN commended Governor Alex Chioma Otti for his intervention and commitment toward improving the welfare of judiciary workers, while also appreciating the Chief Judge of Abia State, Hon. Justice Lilian Abai, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), judges, judiciary management, and other stakeholders for their support during the strike period.
The union further expressed optimism that the terms of the agreement would be faithfully implemented to strengthen the independence and efficiency of the judiciary in Abia State.
