GOMEP-NG lauds police lawyer Zuokumor for championing child protection
ABUJA — The Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG) has commended CSP Temi Zuokumor, a lawyer and police officer, for her sustained advocacy for child protection and efforts to amplify the voices of vulnerable children.
In a statement jointly signed by its National President, Comr. Akpovoke Otiti, and National Secretary, Prince Clinton Uba, the guild described Zuokumor’s interventions in schools and communities as a commendable example of policing that goes beyond law enforcement.
GOMEP-NG said Zuokumor’s engagements with schoolchildren, coupled with her public advocacy and educational videos, have helped draw attention to issues affecting children while encouraging them to speak up when confronted with abuse, intimidation or other threats to their safety.
The guild also praised the police officer for using her legal and policing background to educate children on morals, personal safety and responsible conduct.
According to the statement, her approach has demonstrated the importance of prevention, education and community engagement in building safer communities.
“Her willingness to go from school to school, engage with children and create awareness about their rights and safety is worthy of commendation,” the guild said.
GOMEP-NG urged parents, guardians and teachers to pay closer attention to the welfare of children and create an environment where they can freely report abuse and other forms of vulnerability.
The organisation also called for stronger collaboration among law enforcement agencies, schools, parents and community leaders to strengthen child-protection mechanisms across the country.
It further encouraged Zuokumor to sustain her advocacy, describing her interventions as a positive contribution to efforts aimed at protecting children and fostering safer communities.
