2027: APC Stakeholders Purchase Governorship Forms for Benjamin Kalu

A coalition of stakeholders within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State has purchased the party’s governorship nomination and expression of interest forms for Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The forms were presented to the Deputy Speaker in Abuja by a delegation of party leaders, professionals, and community representatives drawn from across the three senatorial districts of the state. The move, according to the group, is aimed at drafting Kalu into the governorship race and reflects what they described as a growing consensus around his candidacy.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, senior lawyer James Uko-Kalu said the decision was driven by Kalu’s track record in public service and his leadership role in the National Assembly. The stakeholders expressed confidence that he possesses the capacity to reposition Abia State through inclusive governance and development-focused policies.

Responding to the development, Kalu described the gesture as a “call to service” and appreciated the confidence reposed in him. However, he stopped short of declaring his ambition, stating that he would consult widely with political stakeholders and supporters before making a final decision.

The development comes amid intensifying political activities within the All Progressives Congress in Abia State ahead of the 2027 elections. Although Kalu is widely believed to harbour governorship ambitions, he has yet to formally declare his intention to contest.
