Three Arraigned Over Alleged Murder of Abuja Resident, Remanded in Suleja Correctional Centre

Three persons have been arraigned before the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court 13 over the alleged murder of Adimike Godwin, whose body was discovered in his residence in the Guzape area of Abuja on May 15, 2026.

The defendants—Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade—were arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on criminal conspiracy to commit culpable homicide, culpable homicide, and offences under the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.

Their arraignment followed the conclusion of an extensive investigation by the FCT Police Command into the circumstances surrounding the death of the deceased, who was found with multiple stab wounds after relatives raised concerns over their inability to reach him.

According to the police, the case began on May 15, 2026, when a distressed family member reported to the Guzape Divisional Police Headquarters that repeated efforts to contact Adimike Godwin had proved unsuccessful. Detectives were immediately deployed to the residence, where they found him lying unconscious in his room with multiple stab wounds.

The victim was rushed to Karu General Hospital for emergency treatment but was confirmed dead on arrival by medical personnel.

In the aftermath of the incident, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, ordered a discreet and comprehensive investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and identify those responsible.

The investigation initially resulted in the arrest of five suspects, including the deceased’s driver and gateman. However, upon the conclusion of the investigation and a review of the evidence obtained, the police filed charges against only Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony, Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade.

According to the prosecution, the three defendants are jointly standing trial on charges of criminal conspiracy to commit culpable homicide and culpable homicide in connection with the death of Adimike Godwin.

Beyond the homicide charges, Adimike Odirachukwu Anthony was separately charged with allegedly entering into a same-sex civil union. Adimike Chinyere Stephany and Comfort Ajibade were also jointly charged with entering into a same-sex civil union, contrary to the provisions of the Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act.

At the conclusion of the arraignment, the court ordered that the three defendants be remanded at the Suleja Correctional Centre pending the hearing of the case. The matter was subsequently adjourned until September 30, 2026, for further proceedings.

Reacting to the development, the FCT Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring that justice is served for victims of crime while upholding the constitutional rights of all persons throughout the judicial process.

The Command further assured residents of the Federal Capital Territory that it would continue to investigate criminal cases professionally, prosecute offenders in accordance with the law, and remain steadfast in its commitment to protecting lives, property and public confidence in the justice system.
