Rivers Elders Purchase APC Guber Form For Gov. Fubara
A delegation of prominent elders and political stakeholders from Rivers State has purchased the All Progressives Congress (APC) Expression of Interest and Nomination Forms for Governor Siminalayi Fubara ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The group, led by a member of the House of Representatives, Awaji-Inombek Abiante, said the move reflects widespread grassroots support for the governor to seek a second term in office.
Addressing journalists, Abiante described the action as consistent with democratic norms, noting that political participation and candidate endorsement are recurring features of Nigeria’s electoral cycle.
“This is not unusual. Democracy requires participation, and this process recurs every four years. What matters is the will of the people, and Rivers people have made their position clear,” he stated.
He clarified that the initiative was not at the instance of the governor but was independently driven by supporters and stakeholders across the state.
Drawing parallels with previous political developments, Abiante referenced how allies of Bola Ahmed Tinubu had similarly procured nomination forms on his behalf, describing the gesture as part of Nigeria’s established political culture.
According to him, funds used in purchasing the forms were raised through voluntary contributions from supporters, which he said underscores the popularity of the governor among the electorate.
“He did not send us, but he cannot turn his back on the people. This is a collective decision by Rivers people,” Abiante added.
The delegation justified its action by pointing to what it described as the administration’s achievements in infrastructure and development. Among the projects highlighted were the Trans-Kalabari road initiative, improved road networks in areas such as Andoni, and ongoing efforts to develop coastal communities.
They also cited initiatives linked to Nigeria’s blue economy and increased international engagements as indicators of the governor’s performance.
The development signals an early political alignment among sections of Rivers State’s leadership as activities ahead of the 2027 general elections begin to gather momentum.
