Wabara-Led PDP BoT Appoints 13-Member Interim NWC

The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) deepened on Monday as the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), led by Adolphus Wabara, announced the appointment of a 13-member interim National Working Committee (NWC).

The decision was taken at a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja by a faction of the party aligned with Tanimu Turaki.

According to Wabara, the move became necessary following a recent Supreme Court judgment that nullified the party’s Ibadan national convention, thereby creating a leadership vacuum within the PDP.

The newly constituted interim NWC is to be headed by Turaki, who will serve as chairman, while other members are expected to steer the affairs of the party pending the resolution of the ongoing leadership crisis.

The BoT maintained that its action is in line with the PDP constitution, which provides for the establishment of a caretaker structure in the event of a vacuum in party leadership.
The meeting was attended by key stakeholders, including Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, alongside several former ministers and party leaders.

However, the development has further exposed divisions within the party, as another faction—reportedly backed by Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike—continues to lay claim to the party’s leadership and structure.

The latest move underscores the deepening internal struggle within the PDP, raising fresh concerns about the party’s cohesion ahead of future electoral contests.
