Labour Party Elects New National Leadership
The Labour Party Nigeria has elected a new national leadership, with Nenadi Usman emerging as the party’s National Chairman at its 2026 National Convention held in Umuahia.
Usman, a former Minister of Finance and immediate past chairman of the party’s caretaker committee, emerged through a consensus arrangement alongside other members of the National Working Committee.
Other officials elected at the convention include Iheanacho Obioma as National Secretary, Nike Oriola as Deputy National Chairman, Ken Asogwa as National Publicity Secretary, Oluchi Oparah as National Organising Secretary, and Hilda Dokubo as National Women Leader.
The emergence of the new leadership follows months of internal crisis within the party, marked by disputes over leadership and legal battles among factions.
In her acceptance speech, Usman called for unity and reconciliation, urging aggrieved members to set aside differences and work collectively to reposition the party ahead of future elections.
The convention is seen as a significant step in stabilising the party as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
