Nkwoachara Autonomous Community Renews Call for Youths to Embrace Farming as It Holds Iwaji Ceremony
The people of Nkwoachara Autonomous Community in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area of Abia State, have renewed their call on youths to embrace farming to promote food security and sustain agricultural production.
The call was made during the community’s Iwaji ceremony held on Thursday, September 10, 2026, at the palace of the Eze-Elect, Bishop Dr. Nwandu Nduka Onuoha, at Umuire.
Speaking at the event, the Traditional Prime Minister, High Chief Barr. C.N. Ajuwa, said the ceremony was an opportunity to thank God for the year’s bountiful harvest, urging the younger generation to embrace farming and contribute to food sustenance.
The Eze-Elect, Bishop Dr. Nwandu Nduka Onuoha, also urged the people to preserve their cultural heritage and encouraged youths to embrace farming and other productive activities that can strengthen the community’s economy.
Another Cabinet Chief, Chief Oyemaobi Cyril, who spoke to newsmen, emphasized the significance of the Iwaji ceremony, explaining that following the performance of the traditional rites by the Nkwoachara Eze-Cabinet, communities within the autonomous community are now free to celebrate and eat the new yam.
The event, which was held on a low-key basis, was attended by selected community elders, women and youth leaders.
