Gov. Otti to Flag Off ABSIIDP Lot 1 Project in Aba October 21

Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, OFR, is scheduled to flag off the construction of two pilot roads covering 7.1 kilometres in Aba on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, under the Abia State Integrated Infrastructure Development Project (ABSIIDP).

The two roads are Old Express Road, measuring 3.95 kilometres, and Uratta Road, measuring 3.15 kilometres.

The Old Express Road runs from Port Harcourt Road, while Uratta Road stretches from Port Harcourt Road to the Enugu/Port Harcourt Expressway.

The roads are being implemented under Lot 1 of the ABSIIDP roads component, an infrastructure development initiative supported by the African Development Bank (AfDB) to improve road infrastructure and promote economic growth in Abia State.

The planned flag-off marks a significant milestone in the implementation of the project, which is expected to improve road connectivity and facilitate movement within Aba, one of southeastern Nigeria’s major commercial centres.

Upon completion, the roads are expected to enhance the movement of people and goods, improve access to businesses and adjoining communities, and support commercial activities along the affected corridors.

Aba’s economy relies heavily on road transportation for the movement of manufactured goods, agricultural produce, commercial vehicles and passengers. Improved road infrastructure is therefore important to traders, manufacturers, transport operators, residents and other road users.

The ABSIIDP is part of the state’s broader infrastructure development efforts, with a focus on roads, urban mobility, drainage and erosion control. The involvement of the African Development Bank provides development financing support for the programme.

Attention will now be on the commencement and timely delivery of the projects, with residents and business operators expecting quality construction, effective drainage systems and durable roads that can withstand sustained traffic.

The successful execution of the two pilot roads would contribute to improving transportation infrastructure in Aba and support the wider objectives of ABSIIDP.
