NASS 2027: Southeast Group Urges NDC to Affirm Chikwendu’s Candidacy for Abia South Senate Seat

The Forum of Abia Democrats (FABD) has called on the National Working Committee (NWC) of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) to uphold the outcome of the party’s senatorial primary by affirming the nomination of Comrade James Chibuzo Chikwendu as the party’s candidate for the Abia South Senatorial District in the 2027 general elections.

The group, whose membership spans the 17 local government areas of Abia State, commended party delegates and members for the overwhelming support they gave Chikwendu during the NDC senatorial primary for Abia South.

The position of the forum was contained in a press statement made available to journalists on Monday in Abuja. The statement was jointly signed by the Chairman of FABD, Surveyor Samuel Aguiyi, and the Secretary-General, Victor Mbanaso.

FABD also praised the leadership of the NDC for prioritising competence, credibility and grassroots acceptance in its decision-making process, describing Chikwendu as the most suitable candidate for the senatorial seat.

According to the forum, Chikwendu has distinguished himself as a successful businessman, human rights advocate and political leader, qualities it said have earned him widespread acceptance across Abia South Senatorial District.

The group expressed confidence that Chikwendu’s popularity and connection with the electorate would translate into electoral victory for the NDC in the 2027 general election.

It further described his emergence as the party’s senatorial candidate as the beginning of a new era of purposeful representation and sustainable development for Abia South and the state at large.

FABD stated that, if elected into the Senate, Chikwendu possesses the capacity to attract meaningful infrastructural projects, improve access to essential social amenities and promote rural development across the seven local government areas that make up Abia South Senatorial District.

The forum also expressed optimism that Chikwendu would provide quality legislative representation by sponsoring people-oriented bills, moving impactful motions and supporting laws that would strengthen democratic institutions and promote national development.

Reaffirming its commitment to the party, the group pledged to mobilise massive support across the Southeast to ensure the victory of the NDC and the election of Comrade James Chibuzo Chikwendu as the next senator representing Abia South Senatorial District in the 2027 general election.
