PDP Crisis Deepens as Turaki-Led Faction Dares Wike to Seal Office
The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) escalated on Friday as the faction led by Kabiru Turaki openly challenged the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to carry out his threat of shutting down its operational office in Abuja.
The confrontation followed Wike’s recent media chat where he questioned the legitimacy of the Turaki-led faction and vowed to seal any building being used as a parallel PDP secretariat in the Federal Capital Territory.
Reacting to the threat, Ibrahim Abdullahi, a former deputy national publicity secretary of the PDP and ally of the Turaki camp, said the faction was already operating from a temporary office known to Wike and challenged the minister to act on his threat if he could.
“We have been operating from an office. He knows the location; he should come there and take over the office if he can,” Abdullahi stated.
The latest exchange highlights the worsening power struggle within the PDP ahead of the 2027 elections, with rival blocs loyal to Wike and other party stakeholders battling for control of the opposition party’s structure.
Wike had earlier insisted that the Turaki-led faction lacked legal backing and warned banks against opening accounts for the group, threatening sanctions against any institution that recognizes it as the authentic PDP leadership.
However, members of the Turaki faction dismissed the threats, accusing the FCT minister of attempting to use state power to intimidate political opponents within the party.
