2027: AKALIRO AND THE IGBO ADAGE OF “ỤZỌ DỊ MMA, A GA YA UGBO ABỤỌ”
There is an Igbo adage that captures the wisdom of continuity and reward: “Ụzọ dị mma, a ga ya ugboro abụọ” — when the road is good, it will be travelled again. It speaks to the wisdom of staying on a path that is producing results and taking people closer to their destination.
As Ndi-Ohuhu approach the 2027 election, this wisdom aptly captures the case for the return of Hon. Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro to the Abia State House of Assembly.
The case for Akaliro is about performance, experience, results and continuity. Through his working relationship with Governor Alex Otti, he has helped position Ohuhu to benefit from the administration’s development agenda.
One of the most significant examples is the State High Court project. The court could have been located anywhere within Umuahia North, including Ibeku land, but through effective advocacy and engagement, the project was brought to Ohuhu land. This means increased government presence, economic activity, business opportunities and institutional relevance for the community.
There is also the NSCDC Divisional Headquarters, strengthening security infrastructure and government presence in the area, as well as the Afor Umuda Market, currently under construction, which will provide an important commercial platform for traders, farmers, transporters and residents.
In Ofeme, Akaliro has spoken up on the deteriorating Ofeme Bridge, helping bring the issue to government attention and contributing to the process towards intervention.
Beyond infrastructure, one of the most important aspects of his representation has been employment opportunities for constituents, including permanent positions in the teaching service. For the beneficiaries and their families, these are opportunities that directly change lives.
His collaboration with prominent Ohuhu leaders has also secured an additional Green Shuttle service for the Umuhu axis, connecting communities to the Nnenna Otti Bus Terminal and improving transportation and economic opportunities for residents.
These achievements demonstrate what effective constituency advocacy can deliver when a representative has experience, access and a productive relationship with government.
Akaliro has also gained valuable legislative experience and a deeper understanding of how to navigate government, present constituency demands and pursue them to completion. At a time when Abia is undergoing significant transformation under Governor Alex Otti, that experience and alignment remain valuable assets for Ohuhu.
The argument for his return in 2027 is therefore simple: the work has started, the foundation has been laid, and there is more to accomplish.
Why abandon a road that is producing results?
The wisdom of our ancestors provides the answer:
“Ụzọ dị mma, a ga ya ugboro abụọ.”
When the road is good, you travel it again.
For Ndi-Ohuhu, 2027 presents an opportunity to consolidate the gains already made and give Akaliro the mandate to do even more for the constituency.
Let’s vote wisely. Let’s return Barr. Anderson Kelechi Akaliro to the Abia State Legislature.
