18 APC Governors Back Uzodimma, Dismiss Removal Speculation
Governors elected on the platform of the ruling All Progressives Congress have passed a vote of confidence in Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, dismissing widespread reports that he had been removed as chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF).
The endorsement came during a closed-door meeting held today Friday at the Imo Lodge in Abuja, where 18 APC governors physically present reaffirmed their support for Uzodimma’s leadership and insisted that the forum remained united.
The controversy followed earlier reports claiming that the governors had replaced Uzodimma and were considering Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, as a possible successor. The reports triggered speculation of an internal crisis within the ruling party ahead of the 2027 elections.
However, moving the motion for the vote of confidence, Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, declared that Uzodimma remains chairman of the forum, while Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, continues as deputy chairman.
Speaking after the meeting, Uba Sani described the reports of division within the forum as “unfortunate,” insisting that APC governors were more united than ever and fully committed to supporting President Bola Tinubu ahead of the next general election.
Gov. Uzodimma also dismissed suggestions of a leadership crisis, saying APC governors were focused on governance, party unity, and preparations for future elections.
