Awa Youth Unveil November 28 for Mega Youth Day 2026
The Umuawa-Alaocha Federated Union Youth Wing has announced Saturday, November 28, 2026, as the date for its much-anticipated Awa Youth Mega Day 2026, with a promise to make the event a major platform for youth empowerment, talent discovery, mentorship and community development.
The event, organised under the leadership of the Youth President, Hon. Adindu Chizaram (Exam), will be held under the theme, “Building a Sustainable Future Through Youth Empowerment.”
The date was unveiled during the Youth Wing’s monthly general meeting held at the Umuezerola-Umuawa Hall on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
The 2026 edition is expected to feature a series of programmes designed to address issues affecting young people while creating opportunities for talent development, entrepreneurship, mentorship and recognition of outstanding contributions to youth development in Umuawa-Alaocha.
Speaking on the programme, Chairman of the Awa Youth Day Planning Committee, Tochukwu Eluwa, disclosed that the committee, which was inaugurated during the July monthly general meeting, had held several meetings and consultations towards developing an impactful programme for the event.
Eluwa said the committee had deliberately structured the programme to go beyond entertainment, with emphasis on initiatives capable of producing tangible benefits for young people in the community.
Activities will commence on Friday, November 27, with an awareness walk and campaign against illicit drug abuse and cultism within Umuawa-Alaocha and its environs.
According to the organisers, the campaign is aimed at sensitising young people to the dangers of illicit drug abuse, cultism and other social vices capable of jeopardising their future.
Later that evening, a Talent Night will provide a platform for young people with creative abilities to showcase their talents. The programme will feature music, comedy, spoken-word performances and other forms of entertainment, with the organisers seeking to create opportunities for talented youths to gain visibility and attract potential opportunities.
The grand finale on Saturday, November 28, will feature an award ceremony recognising individuals and organisations with proven contributions to the development and advancement of young people in Umuawa-Alaocha.
The planning committee stressed that the awards will be strictly merit-based, with recipients selected on the basis of demonstrable impact and a proven record of supporting youth development within the community.
One of the major initiatives of the 2026 Awa Youth Mega Day will be the proposed establishment of a ₦10 million Youth Endowment Fund.
The fund is expected to provide support for youths who have acquired vocational skills, young entrepreneurs seeking assistance to establish or expand their businesses, as well as indigent students requiring financial support to continue their education.
Another major feature of the programme will be “Meet the Trainer,” an initiative designed to connect young people with successful artisans and professionals from Umuawa-Alaocha.
Under the initiative, youths interested in learning particular trades or professions will have the opportunity to understudy experienced practitioners for an agreed period, thereby gaining practical skills, mentorship and industry exposure.
The organisers said the initiative is intended to strengthen the culture of skills acquisition and encourage young people to embrace legitimate pathways to self-reliance.
The Awa Youth Mega Day 2026 is therefore expected to combine advocacy, entertainment, recognition, skills development, mentorship and financial empowerment in what the organisers describe as an effort to build a more sustainable future for the next generation of Umuawa-Alaocha.
With the theme, “Building a Sustainable Future Through Youth Empowerment,” the event is positioned not merely as a celebration but as a platform for mobilising resources, ideas and opportunities towards the development of youths in the community.
