Prof. Omoniyi Akinola to Deliver Keynote at GOMEP-NG 2026 Annual Conference
Professor Omoniyi Bukola Akinola, PhD, has been confirmed as the keynote speaker at the 2026 Annual Conference, Lecture and Workshop of the Guild of Online Media Editors and Publishers of Nigeria (GOMEP-NG).
The conference is scheduled to hold on Thursday, November 26, 2026, at the Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, opposite the Central Bank of Nigeria Headquarters, Abuja, by 10:00 a.m.
The theme of the conference is “Securing Nigeria’s 2027 Elections: The Role of Online Media in Information Integrity, Public Trust and Democratic Resilience.”
Professor Akinola is a Professor of Law specialising in Legal Ethics and Corporate Governance. He is currently with the Department of Private and Commercial Law, Faculty of Law, Baze University, Abuja, where he teaches Company Law at undergraduate level and International Commercial Arbitration and International Maritime Law at postgraduate level. He is also a practicing lawyer and Principal Partner of Advocates Alliance LP, Abuja.
He obtained his LL.B from the University of Ilorin in 2003, LL.M from Abia State University, Uturu, in 2007, and PhD in Advanced Comparative Company Law from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, in 2014.
Akinola served as Deputy Director of Academics at the Nigerian Law School and Acting Head of the Department of Professional Ethics and Legal Skills between October 2015 and September 2019. He was also part of the team of experts that drafted the Professional Ethics and Company Law curriculum for the Nigerian Law School between 2008 and 2009 and served as Law Clinic Coordinator from 2013 to 2019.
He has held several academic leadership positions, including Head of Department of Private and Property Law at Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State; Dean of the Faculty of Law at Redeemer’s University, Ede, between 2021 and 2023; and Professor and Dean of the School of Law at Kampala International University, Uganda, between 2023 and 2024.
He also served as a consultant in the drafting of the curriculum for Nigerian Legal System I at Miva Open University, Abuja. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the African Journal of Law, Ethics and Education and the African Journal of Legal Research. His biography states that he has published books, monographs, scholarly articles and book chapters, with over 200 publications.
The GOMEP-NG 2026 Annual Conference, Lecture and Workshop will focus on the role of online media in promoting information integrity, public trust and democratic resilience ahead of the 2027 elections.
