Gov. Otti’s Aide, Hon. Ugoanusi Storms Osisioma LGA with ‘Changing the Narrative’ Campaign; Calls for Adoption of New Methods of Leadership
The Senior Special Assistant to the Abia State Governor on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Magdalene Ugoanusi, on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, took her “Changing the Narrative at the Local Government Level for Good Governance” campaign to Osisioma Local Government Area, where she urged leaders at the grassroots to embrace a new model of leadership anchored on accountability, innovation, transparency and people-oriented governance.
Addressing government officials, traditional rulers, councillors, community leaders, women, youths and other stakeholders, Hon. Ugoanusi said meaningful transformation begins with a deliberate decision to abandon old methods of governance and embrace a new vision capable of making local governments centres of excellence, development, accountability and hope.
She commended the Governor, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti for demonstrating that good governance goes beyond campaign promises, describing his administration as one driven by visible infrastructure, improved security, people-centred policies and renewed public confidence in government.
According to her, local governments remain the closest tier of government to the people and must become the foundation for sustainable development by ensuring quality healthcare, education, security, environmental sanitation and economic opportunities for residents.
She urged political office holders to replace politics of division with politics of development, stressing that changing the narrative requires replacing excuses with responsibility, waste with accountability and promises with measurable results.
Hon. Ugoanusi further emphasised that development cannot be achieved by government alone, calling on traditional rulers, religious leaders, youths, women, civil society organisations and the private sector to collaborate in building peaceful and prosperous communities. She also encouraged local governments to embrace technology, promote entrepreneurship, support farmers and invest in young people, describing citizens as the greatest asset of any local government.
Delivering the keynote address, the guest speaker, Dr. Kingsley Orji said Abia State has undergone a remarkable transformation under Governor Alex Otti, noting that the state has moved from a period when many citizens were reluctant to identify with it because of poor leadership to becoming a source of pride in the South-East.
He said Governor Otti’s transformative leadership has changed the narrative of governance in the state and urged leaders at the local government level to emulate the same leadership style by prioritising service delivery and development at the grassroots.
Also speaking, the Director-General of the Abia State Bureau for Strategic Communication, Barr. Onyebuchi Ememanka, called on the people of Osisioma and Abians generally to sustain the current momentum of development by supporting the continuity of Governor Otti’s administration beyond 2027.
According to him, the transformation taking place across the state, particularly within the Osisioma axis, is visible evidence of purposeful leadership. He urged residents to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and actively participate in the electoral process to ensure the Governor’s re-election in 2027.
In his remarks, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Lands and Housing, Pastor Okorougo Aji, said the hallmark of leadership is understanding how to use power even before attaining office. He noted that Governor Otti’s preparedness before assuming office was evident in the speed with which his administration commenced governance and delivered projects across the state.
He urged Abians to consolidate on the achievements recorded by the present administration through continued support.
Contributing, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Tourism and Creative Economy, Hon. Matilda Anyamele, described governance as a collective responsibility, urging all stakeholders to work together to ensure the delivery of the dividends of democracy at the grassroots.
She urged leaders at all level at the grassroot to take charge and take responsibility. Hon. Anyamele added that by so doing dividends of democracy will trickle down to every nook and cranny of the council.
Also speaking, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Digital Economy, Hon. Elizabeth Chijioke, advocated greater adoption of technology in local government administration, saying digital tools would improve efficiency, transparency and service delivery. She encouraged local government officials and staff to embrace technology in the discharge of their responsibilities.
In his goodwill message, the Mayor of Osisioma Local Government Area, Hon. Christian Chidi Agu, thanked Hon. Ugoanusi and her team for bringing the campaign to the council.
He said the Osisioma Local Government administration has already aligned with Governor Otti’s transformational agenda by implementing people-oriented policies and developmental programmes at the council level. He reaffirmed the support of the people of Osisioma for Governor Otti and expressed confidence that the council area would overwhelmingly support his re-election in 2027 to enable him to consolidate on the gains recorded by his administration.
The event attracted a large turnout of stakeholders, including traditional rulers, council officials, community leaders, youths and women from various communities across Osisioma Local Government Area.
