Umuawa Kidnap: Gov. Otti’s Aide, Hon. Ugoanusi Visits Victim in Hospital, Offers Support
The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor of Abia State on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Magdalene Egondu Ugoanusi, on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, visited one of the victims of the recent Umuawa kidnap incident, Mr. Izuchukwu Okechi, at the hospital where he is receiving treatment, offering words of encouragement and financial support.
Mr. Okechi, alongside Mrs. Onyinyechi Ekechukwu, was rescued by the gallant youths of Umuawa community, with the support of neighbouring communities, following their abduction by suspected kidnappers.
During the unfortunate incident, Mr. Okechi was reportedly attacked with a machete by his abductors and sustained injuries, for which he is currently receiving medical treatment.
During the hospital visit, Hon. Ugoanusi, who is also an indigene of the community, sympathised with the victim over his ordeal and encouraged him to remain hopeful as he continues to recover. She expressed gratitude for his safe rescue and assured him of her continued support.
The Governor’s aide commended Mr. Okechi for his courage and resilience, expressing satisfaction with the progress of his recovery and praying for his speedy return to full health.
As part of her humanitarian gesture, Hon. Ugoanusi provided financial assistance to support the victim’s medical treatment and feeding, reaffirming her commitment to the welfare of the people and her resolve to stand by victims of distress in the community.
Recall that Hon. Ugoanusi had earlier, on Friday, June 12, 2026, visited another rescued victim of the abduction, Mrs. Onyinyechi Ekechukwu, at her residence in Umuezerola, Umuawa-Alaocha, shortly after the successful rescue operation carried out by the community youths.
Her successive visits to the rescued victims underscore her commitment to identifying with the people of Umuawa-Alaocha and the entire Nkwoachara Ward during difficult times, while providing both moral and material support to those affected by the incident.
The President-General of Umuawa-Alaocha, Hon. Chimex Nelcinn Uluocha, and the Youth President, Hon. Adindu Chizaram, also confirmed that Hon. Ugoanusi has remained actively engaged with the community in the aftermath of the kidnap incident. They noted that she has consistently kept in touch and has been supporting efforts aimed at strengthening security and safeguarding lives and property in Umuawa-Alaocha, demonstrating her commitment to the peace, safety, and well-being of the people.
Hon. Ugoanusi was accompanied on the hospital visit by the Vice President of the Umuawa-Alaocha Federated Union Youth Wing, Tochukwu Eluwa.
